The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced that a section of Limuru Road will be closed in order to facilitate a demolition exercise.

In a statement released on Wednesday, August 16, KURA stated that it intends to remove an existing bridge blocking road workers from expanding the existing lanes into four.

It further explained that the road leading to Ngara towards Nairobi's Central Business District will almost be impassible from 6 am to 6 pm.

"Motorists are advised to drive cautiously as they approach the section and follow the road signs provided," KURA stated.

"We wish to inform the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Limuru Road at Aga Khan Primary School on Sunday 20th August, 2023 as from 6am till 6pm," the statement read in parts.

According to KURA, the demolition exercise will allow the Ministry of Roads to dual the busy road that connects the Capital City to part of Central Kenya.

"We apologise for any inconveniences that may be caused as we endeavour to Transform Urban Mobility," the KURA statement read in parts.

Nonetheless, police and traffic marshals will be on-site to enable a smooth flow of traffic.

Limuru Road is a major road that runs from the Western parts of the city to the suburbs of Limuru town in Central Kenya.

The distance between Limuru town and Nairobi CBD is 27.3 kilometres and 1 hour and 13 minutes apart. The road condition is generally good, but traffic congestion can occur during peak hours.

Sections of the road have been expanded over the years, with the recent being the uplift of the Limuru and the UN Avenue roads into dual carriageways.

Two local contractors assigned to upgrade the roads are expected to complete the expansion by October 2024.

Limuru Road Phase I, which starts from Muthaiga Road junction to Wangari Maathai Road junction, has been under construction for nearly a year since November 2022.

Meanwhile, Northern Bypass Road is an alternative route to Limuru Road and is often less congested. However, the time spent on the road is slightly longer.
