The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of Mombasa Road to facilitate essential road construction by its workers.
In a notice dated Thursday, August 17, the roads agency notified the public of its intention to close Kyang’ombe slip road along A8 Road at City Cabanas Stage for 9 days.
The section of the busy highway will be closed from Thursday, August 17 to Friday, August 25.
Mombasa Road serves as a crucial highway connecting Nairobi to various counties, including Machakos and Kajiado. The planned maintenance has the potential to cause significant traffic congestion on this bustling route.
KeNHA clarified that the closure aims to facilitate the construction of a deceleration lane into Kyang'ombe Slip Road.
Additionally, a tailback storage lane for traffic heading to the Eastern Bypass will also be built during this period.
"Traffic headed to ICD is advised to proceed straight along Mombasa Road (A8) and exit at Laboratory and Allied into ICD Road," read the notice part.
The roads agency further advised motorists to adhere to the traffic signs placed along the road, which indicate alternative routes.
Moreover, traffic marshals and police will be stationed on the highway to provide guidance to drivers, who are also urged to maintain proper lane discipline.
The authority also provided assurance to motorists that the construction works will be completed within the designated timeframe, aiming to prevent any inconvenience to commuters traveling to their homes or workplaces.
Meanwhile, additional city roads are scheduled for temporary closure due to maintenance.
One of the affected roads is Limuru Road, which leads into the Central Business District (CBD) from Muthaiga. The closure is planned near Aga Khan Primary School on Sunday, August 20th.
