The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday arrested business lady Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathe wa Ngara in a night raid at a hotel in Nairobi CBD.
The DCI officers from the Anti-narcotics Unit worked closely with their counterparts from the Forensics and Cyber Crimes Units to track the suspect who had been in hiding for six days.
She has been transferred to DCI headquarters where she will be interrogated on suspicion of drug trafficking following a raid to her premises that netted Ksh13.4 million cash and bags of bhang.
While confirming the arrest of Mathe Wa Ngara, a source close to the operation told Kenyans.co.ke that the suspect was nabbed after making a phone call that identified her location and hiding place.
"She was exposed by the phone call which she made from her hiding place to some lady within Nairobi. She was also trying to coordinate court issues from the hotel room," the source indicated.
Mathe wa Ngara will be processed today and arraigned in court.
The police have accused the woman of being part of a drug ring that was busted last week as law enforcement officers crackdown on drug traffickers across the county.
The suspect had on Monday, August 21, through Lawyer Danstan Omari asked the High Court to grant her anticipatory bail on grounds that she was being tormented by her business rivals.
This happened as it emerged that she had called Teresia Wanjiku who was mistakenly arrested to apologise on Sunday, in what appeared to be a dare to law enforcement.
In her anticipatory bail application, the businesslady claimed that she is a law-abiding Kenyan with a legitimate source of income.
"The applicant is of the firm belief that the timing of the arrest is designed to intimidate and ensure that she does not continue running her business here in Kenya," she stated in her application.
On her behalf, Lawyer Omari asked the court to issue an injunction pending a request for anticipatory bail. Anticipatory bail is issued to block the possible arrest of a suspect.
