Indian police officers on Wednesday lured and nabbed two Kenyan females moving cocaine worth Ksh25 million.
India's Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) tracked one of the ladies at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) where she was in possession of 1.698 kilograms of cocaine.
According to Indian authorities, the lady had flown from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Nairobi with the drugs. It is still not clear how they evaded JKIA security with the drugs.
Indian detectives noted that the lady denied having any contraband, but after a search, the drugs were found in her luggage.
The lady was about to board another plane to Mumbai where according to the police she was to sell the drugs.
The plane ticket turned out to be helpful to DRI as it enabled them to piece the puzzles together and know the would-be buyer who was waiting in Mumbai.
After arresting the first Kenyan woman, the officers laid a trap for the buyer in Mumbai who showed up for the transaction.
It turned out that the buyer was also a Kenyan woman living in Mumbai with a connection to an Asian drug ring.
"Both the carrier and the recipient have been placed under arrest in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act," a statement from the police read in part.
Drug Trafficking
Many Kenyans are increasingly being caught smuggling drugs into the Asian country. In June, another woman was arrested in India after she was caught smuggling cocaine valued at Ksh14 million that was concealed in whiskey bottles.
The ring is also seen to involve Indian nationals after one was caught on Sunday travelling from Nairobi through Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India carrying drugs worth Ksh418 million.
