Police officers on Tuesday finally found the decomposing body of a missing hairdresser after a frantic search.
Led by one of the suspects, the authorities discovered the body of Jane Mwende Mwanzia, 29, at a pit latrine in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
The officers were aided on the mission with a fire truck.
Reports indicated that Mwanzia's body was found at the latrine just a few kilometers from her workstation within the area.
Mwende had gone missing roughly two weeks ago in what was believed to be a catfish game. She reportedly received a call from a person who posed as a client.
The next day, she failed to turn up to work and concerns were heightened a while later when she did not pick up her child from her home in Machakos.
Two days ago, a couple believed to be associated with her disappearance was arrested while a manhunt for two more was still ongoing.
Investigators believed that her disappearance was a result of a love triangle.
Disappearance Cases
Cases of disappearances had been on an uptick with cases hitting 152 last year.
Missing Voices, a lobby group, claimed in March that members of the National Police Service either killed or were behind the forceful disappearance of 152 people.
While calling for justice for the victims' families, Missing Voices noted that their investigators had documented and verified data on police killings and enforced disappearances since August 2018.
"In 2022, Missing Voices documented 152 police killings and enforced disappearances. 130 cases were police killings, and 22 were cases of enforced disappearances bringing the total number to 152," the report read in part.
"The year 2022 saw a 31.5 percent drop in police killings and enforced disappearances compared to 2021, where Missing Voices documented 219 cases."
