President William Ruto on Wednesday named political analyst Gabriel Muthuma as a second deputy government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura in the latest cabinet changes.
Muthuma will be working alongside former TV presenter Mwanaisha Chidzuga, acting as the mouthpiece for the government to communicate the Kenya Kwanza administration's policies.
In his new role, he will be advising government officials on public relations and media strategies, publicising government programmes through the media and in communities, collaborating with government agencies and departments to coordinate messaging.
He will also be required to monitor news coverage and track public perception of government policies and initiatives, and respond to questions from the media about government actions.
The role will also involve assisting Isaac Mwaura in distributing statements on behalf of the government and providing timely and accurate information.
Muthuma is a policy And Governance Expert who regularly appears on local TV stations to share his insights on the current political landscape.
In the past, he has been vocal about the policies implemented by the government to address issues affecting Kenyans.
On the other hand, he also criticises the strategies used by the Opposition to provide an oversight role on the Kenya Kwanza administration.
He was part of a 15-member team appointed by former Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to fast-track the issuance of school title deeds across the country.
At the time, former CS Amina noted the team would resolve the crisis as over 20,000 public schools had failed to acquire land ownership documents due to wrangles with private developers.
The appointment comes as Ruto moved to restructure his Cabinet to ensure effective service delivery. The move, which involved the reshuffling of eight Cabinet Secretaries, PSs, and ambassadors, signaled President Ruto realigning his cabinet for 2027.
