National Assembly Public Investments Committee on Commercial Affairs & Energy has given the management of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) two weeks to produce documents on the ownership of the land.

This comes at a time when KICC management and Nairobi City County are in a battle over the land ownership that hosts a restaurant.

Committee chairperson David Pkosing stated that the value listed only includes the building while the surrounding areas are unallocated government land.

The Committee gave this directive when it probed the KICC management over audit queries in the agency's books for the 2019/2020 to 2020/2021 financial years.

In their records, KICC has further failed to honor tenancy agreements with accumulated debts of up to Ksh 36 billion.

This arises from the occupation of the 18th floor by the private secretary to the former president Uhuru Kenyatta for the period between July 1, 2013, and July 1, 2016.

KICC acting managing director, Ms Patricia Ondeng, indicated that the matter had been brought to the attention of the immediate former Committee which had observed that correspondences from the Government had never acknowledged that it gave the retired President the Office Space.

The legislators sought to know what efforts the KICC management had instituted to recover the funds and if the lease agreement for the said floor had been regularized.

"If indeed this revenue has been lost what efforts has the Corporation put in place for recovery?" posed Pokot South MP David Pkosing.

According to the Office of the Auditor General, the debt's recoverability was doubtful and impossible.

MPS further raised concerns over the unfair balances of trade and other receivables that summed a total of Ksh 829 Million as of June 2020, as stated by the management.

KICC is a 32-story building located in the City Square of Nairobi and is a crucial address for several Government offices, including those of recently elected Senators.
