National Assembly Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung'wah has warned Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi about losing out on Ksh1.6 billion in funding owing to delays in making key appointments.

In a letter sent to the county boss on Friday, the Kikuyu lawmaker expressed concern over the Wamatangi's delays in appointing municipality managers.

He referenced a letter from the State Department of Housing advising the county administration to put various structures in place before the money is disbursed.

The Ksh1.6 billion funding was to be used in various infrastructural projects, including the renovation of roads in the county.

Ichung'wah also lamented that Kikuyu constituency would be among the worst affected, given that the World Bank programme earmarked Ksh326 million in projects for his area.

He cited three main road projects, one of which was to be upgraded to bitumen standards.

"I am further concerned that these pending appointments of Municipal Managers are not the only public offices in the Kiambu County Government yet to be filled with substantive officers.

Should the governor fail to make the appointments, the MP sought to have the governor commit to undertaking his constituency projects with county resources.

The Kikuyu MP explained that the delays by the governor should not affect service delivery for the people.

"I would seek an understanding of what the challenges are in you making substantive appointments that are now not only slowing down services to the people but putting us in a situation where we are bound to lose billions of Kenya Shillings earmarked in our 2023/24 budget as grants to county governments," he stated.

"I am certain you are also aware that such a loss to Kiambu County will automatically mean that this grant money will benefit other counties that have proven efficiency and effectiveness in absorption of the grant," he stated.

The county administration under Governor Wamatangi is yet to respond to Ichung'wah's letter.
