"In compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (Chapter 514 Laws of Kenya) and in accordance with the requirements of Rule 23 of the factories and other place of work (Fire Risk Reduction) Rule, 2017. " We wish to notify the public that we shall be conducting fire drills in our buildings," read the notice in part.

On the other hand, other Kenya Re offices in Upper Hill and Kisumu will also undergo the fire drills.

For instance, fire drills at the Kenya Re Towers in Upper Hill are slated for Thursday, October 25 while the Reinsurance Plaza in Kisumu is set to undergo fire drills on Tuesday, October 31.

As such, members of the public were advised to take note of the scheduled operations considering that they are likely to affect operations at the buildings.

Kenyans were also advised not to panic during the fire drills pointing out that similar incidents have led to fatalities.

Fire drills are mandatory in work establishments and factories. The law requires building managers to carry drills regularly which is designed to ensure they are well-equipped to handle emergencies.

"Every occupier shall ensure that fire drills are conducted at least once in every period of twelve months and a record of such drills
kept available for inspection," reads the Fire Risk Reduction Rules 2007.

"A person who contravenes the provisions of this Rule commits an offence."
