A fire incident occurred along Ngara Road in Nairobi County on Friday, July 21, leading to the closure of the road.

The fire broke out in a building adjacent to the post office, situated near a local bank. As a result, motorists had to find alternative routes to navigate through the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire originated from a burst generator within the building. Residents in the vicinity attested to hearing a loud noise emanating from the structure.

Following the incident, three fire engines were promptly dispatched to the vicinity to put out the fire and to stop it from spreading to the environs.

"Thank you to the Nairobi County fire brigade for coming to the rescue," a resident stated expressing his relief over the development.

Residents and other rescue personnel also thronged the area to rescue victims trapped in the building. No fatalities were reported by the time of publishing this article.

Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed shops on the ground floor of a building engulfed in flames, while determined firefighters attempted to salvage the remaining goods.

In the recent past, Nairobi has been rocked by numerous fire outbreaks that have caused losses running into millions of shillings.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja responded by allocating Ksh165 million to the fire department.

Sakaja also built fire stations in Waithaka, Kangundo, Ruaka, and Gigiri at a cost of approximately Ksh1 billion.

When a fire broke out in Kibera in March, Sakaja regretted that firefighters were afraid for their safety due to rising insecurity in the area.

"We have asked leaders to ensure their safe passage to prevent the fire from spreading further. We are only interested in saving lives and property" Sakaja stated.

The county boss vowed to train at least 400 new firefighters as part of the strategy to revamp the Disaster and Emergency Department.
