Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Tuesday, October 24 raided a number of shops in Eldoret, in an operation that led to the recovery of several electronic items.
The detectives raided Petresha Building within Eldoret Township where 56 mobile phones, 45 TVs, and 41 laptops among other items were recovered.
According to the DCI, several electronic repair shops believed to sell stolen items were combed through leading to the recovery of the items.
“Electronic repair shops believed to be confiscating stolen items were searched and assorted electronics without prerequisite ownership receipts recovered,” the DCI statement read.
Detectives also seized various items from another undisclosed shop, which included 156 mobile phones, 41 laptops, 45 TVs, 25 gas cylinders, 8 fridges, 5 microwaves, and 3 gas cookers.
Additionally, they recovered 3 water dispensers, 5 woofers, and 1 Canon camera.
The suspects were taken to Eldoret police station for further investigations, and the various items were held in custody awaiting identification by their owners.
Wednesday's sting operation comes hot on the heels of another operation conducted by DCI detectives on Monday in Meru County following a series of break-ins in bars and pubs.
During the operation, the detectives recovered assorted items stolen from bars in Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Laikipia, and Kirinyaga from a suspected well-coordinated ring.
In one of the raids conducted at a lounge owned by one of the suspects believed to be the mastermind behind the break-ins, the detectives recovered alcoholic drinks, keg pumps, keg cylinders, and other items.
Three vehicles belonging to 3 suspects were intercepted at Makutano area and upon being searched, a panga and metal bars were recovered inside a Toyota Probox.
Detectives also recovered 2 metal bars, 2 pairs of number plates, and empty sacks from another Toyota Probox.
A search at another suspect's house also led to the recovery of a TV, assorted drinks, a keg pump, an Infinix phone, and a Lumix camera lens.
