The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA ) has announced the temporary closure of Southern Bypass for 14 hours.
In an advisory released on Saturday, the road will be closed from Saturday, October 28, 2023, at midnight to Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
KeNHA explained that the road will be closed because of the scheduled 2023 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.
According to the authority, the bypass will be from Ole Sereni Interchange to Kikuyu Town.
Therefore, motorists were advised to plan accordingly, with KeNHA providing alternative routes that can be used during the temporary closure.
"Motorists are advised to use Mombasa Road (A8) from Ole Sereni Interchange, through Uhuru Highway and vice versa as the alternative route. " read the notice in part.
"All road users are further advised to follow the traffic signs."
KeNHA added that traffic marshalls and police will be posted along the highway to direct the flow of traffic to avoid any inconveniences such as traffic snarl-ups.
The directive affects most roads, including Waiyaki Way, given that it is listed as an alternative route for lorries and trailers, which often use Southern Bypass.
On the other hand, motorists who were intending to use Langata Road (Galleria Mall) - Kikuyu via Southern Bypass were advised to use Dagoretti Road via Langata Road.
"Vehicles from Karen to Kikuyu via Southern Bypass will be able to use Southern Bypass to access Kikuyu from Karen through Dagoretti Road," read the notice in part.
KeNHA also published a map indicating alternative routes to be used during the closure. The maps were published on the authority's social media pages.
