President William Ruto has appointed former Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny as the Chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board.

The head of state publicised the changes via a gazette notice released on Friday, October 27.

According to the notice, Kutuny will hold the position for three years, with the order taking effect on Friday.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Copyright Act 2001, I, William Ruto, president of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces appoints Joshua Kutuny to be the chairperson of the Kenya Copyright Board, for three years, with effect from October 27, 2023," read the notice in part.

Kutuny, a Jubilee party member, has been accused of associating himself with President William Ruto.

During the Jubilee purge held in May 2023, he was among the members who faced expulsion over his dalliance with the Kenya Kwanza government. He also lost his deputy secretary-general post to Yasin Noor.

Despite the changes made to the party, Kutuny joined a list of party members who pledged loyalty to President Ruto.

The former Cherangany MP lost his seat to DAP-K's Patrick Barasa Simiyu during the 2022 General Election.

At the time, Kutuny vied on a Jubilee party ticket under the Azimio coalition.

During the 2022 electioneering period, the legislator was one of the few politicians from the Rift Valley region who campaigned for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

In other changes, Ruto named Fred Ojiambo as the chancellor of Kirinyaga University for five years. Paul Musili Wambua was also appointed as the Chancellor of the University of Embu for five years.

Retired Chief of Defence Forces Julius Karangi was also appointed as the Chancellor of the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology for five years.
