A police officer stationed in Marioshoni Police Station, Nakuru County, was on Monday arrested for neglecting his duties of supervising the KCPE exams at Kimonio Primary School.

According to a police report filed under OB 11/30/10/2023, the officer was found sleeping in the teachers' quarters while under the influence of alcohol.

The incident unfolded when the school's centre manager, Elijah Biwott, noticed that the police officer assigned to the centre was absent, raising concerns about a security lapse during the examination.

Biwott raised the alarm at the police station, leading the Molo security team in the company of OCS Marioshoni to initiate a search for their missing colleague.

Following the search, the officer was found sleeping in the teachers' quarters while appearing drunk.

"He was disarmed and Police Constable Richard Mburu was instructed to take over duties during the English Composition paper session," read part of the police report.

Preliminary investigations established that the teacher left the centre and went to a nearby entertainment joint where he got drunk.

One of the teachers found the officers at the joint and convinced him to go and sleep in his house.

The officer was arrested and taken to Elburgon Police Station, pending investigations into his conduct.

The investigations will seek to establish whether the officer violated the provisions of Section 64 of the Police Act, which requires all officers to adhere to the Standing Orders and the Code of Regulations for the time they are in the Service.

Failure to which, the officer shall be liable to disciplinary action as stated by the National Police Service (NPS).
