Nandi Chief Kills Himself After Catching Wife Cheating With Police Officer

A chief in Ndurio Location, Nandi County on Monday killed himself after he caught his wife cheating with a police officer in a lodging.

Douglas Chikanda, Nandi County Criminal Investigation Officer, confirmed the incident and described it as a love triangle involving one of his officers and the chief’s wife, who is a mother of four.

The officer, who is stationed at Kobujoi police station had visited the chief's wife at Sereme Town lodging, Nandi County on Monday evening.

The 42-year-old chief was shocked to find his wife and the police officer involved in the act.

A family member, who spoke to the police, disclosed that Kogei consumed a glass of pesticide, identified as 'Round Up' following the shock.

The chief was rushed to White Crescent Nursing Home while receiving treatment. 

His body was transferred to the White Crescent Hospital morgue awaiting a postmortem.

Detectives in Nandi County have launched investigations to uncover the details surrounding the situation.

The officer has since been sent on compulsory leave pending a probe into the matter.

The incident highlights the rise in cases of infidelity in the country. The latest data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) showed Kenyan men have an average of seven sexual partners in their lifetime.

From the data, in the year 2022, 35 per cent of men had sex with a person who was not their wife while 19 per cent of women confirmed the same.

Nyeri, Kiambu and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties topped the percentage of women who had more than one partner. On the other hand, Homa Bay, Narok and Kiambu Counties topped for men.
