Okiya Omtatah Ranked as Best Senator by Infotrak

Busia Senator and longtime human rights activist Okiya Omtatah has been ranked as the best performing in the country at 59 percent, according to a new survey by research firm Infotrak.

Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango tied with Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot at 56 per cent.

Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo and Nyandarua Senator John Methu closed the top five with 52 percent and 51 percent respectively.

Cheruiyot and Moses Kajwang' (47) of Homabay were the only third-term senators in the top ten list.

The survey also ranked the best women senators with Agnes Kavindu of Machakos leading at 47 per cent and his Isiolo counterpart Fatuma Dullo at 46 per cent.

The Infotrak research that was conducted between July and September, 2023 covered all 47 counties. 

The survey only featured elected leaders, excluding nominated leaders.

Dubbed Countytrak, the survey ranked the performance of elected leaders including  Senators, Women Representatives, and Members of the County Assembly.

Infotrak has released two separate surveys in the last two days ranking the best governors, counties, and the most improved governors and counties.

In their county ranking, 70 per cent of respondents noted that their counties were better than before the introduction of devolution while 21 per cent stated they were worse. At the same time, 9 per cent said they have stagnated.

It also compared the current and previous county governments in terms of development with West Pokot County and Homabay topping at 70 per cent, Trans Nzoia in second (65), Elgeiyo Marakwet (64), Kirinyaga (63), and Embu (59).

Among the governors, Trans Nzoia Gover George Natembeya and Homabay's Gladys Wanga topped the list at 70 per cent, West Pokot's Simon Kachapin (67), Simba Arati of Kisii (64) and Irugu Kang'ata (64).
