Kenya Met Announces 24-Hr Rainfall Starting Today in Nairobi

Kenya Metrological Department has cautioned Nairobi residents of a 24-hour rainfall expected in the city starting Wednesday.

According to the weatherman, the rains started on Wednesday, November 8 at 9 a.m. and will continue to Thursday, November 9 at 9 a.m.

It was indicated that the rains would alternate from moderate to heavy.

Nairobi residents were therefore warned to be ready for the rains, prepare themselves adequately and keep themselves warm.

"The 24-hour forecast for Nairobi predicts periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, starting from 9 a.m. on November 8 and lasting until 9 a.m. on November 9," read the statement in part.

Estates that will experience heavy rainfall include; Westlands, Kibra, Dagoretti South and parts of Langata.

Other estates will register rainfall below 50 mm.

Additionally, light showers in the morning have been projected in the coming days in Nairobi and surrounding counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi.

"Afternoon and night showers are expected over several places during the first half of the forecast period reducing to few places after that," Kenya Met stated.

"Maximum (day-time) temperatures will rise to 29 degrees Celsius in Thika while minimum (night-time) temperatures will be as low as 16 degrees Celsius.

Nyahururu on the other hand has been projected to be the coldest with temperatures dropping temperatures dropping to 6 degrees Celsius.

Residents in the select counties were also advised to be cautious of incidents of flooding that may occur during the week.
