Violence erupted at Kasarani Stadium on Saturday following a confrontation between Gor Mahia fans and the newly promoted Murang'a Seal supporters over alleged unfairness by the match officials.
An eyewitness who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke stated that the fans were irate after the referee disallowed a goal by Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala in the 35th minute.
After the full-time whistle, several Gor Mahia fans rushed across the stadium and began throwing objects across the pitch.
"The incident began when the referee disallowed the goal that Benson Omala scored in the 35th minute, the referee said it was offside," the eye witness noted.
The referee was also not spared as the fans hurled objects at him, accusing him of biased decisions that saw the match end in a goalless draw.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the fans were captured destroying the stadium seats, with some plucking the seats and throwing them inside the pitch to vent their frustrations.
The police rushed to the scene to intervene, lobbying tear gas canisters at the rowdy fans to restore sanity.
"The incident was intense, it forced the police to quell the situation," the eyewitness added.
The defending champions, Gor Mahia hosted the newly promoted Murang'a Seal, for the 11th round of the campaign.
However, despite the intense situation at full-time, the high-voltage game ended in a goalless draw.
The game was set to be the tiebreaker between Gor Mahia and Posta Ranger who are currently a point ahead of Gor after drawing with AFC Leopards.
