A section of the major Nairobi Mombasa Highway has been totally cut off by floods at Sultan Hamud, leaving motorists stranded.
The heavy rains that have been experienced in most parts of the country led to River Sultan breaking its banks, and overflowing on the highway.
A video showed road users stranded on either side of the road, adding to the many incidences of floods damaging roads as El Nino rains continue to pound.
The floods also cut Sultan Hamu-Kasikeuu Road in Makueni County recently.
The section according to road users has been overflowing in the past few days but the situation worsened after the floods totally cut off the section on November 14.
Motorists around the country have been hit the most by the ongoing traffic with major roads being cut off due to heavy floods and landslides.
Newly constructed Modogashe road in Garissa County was swept by floods disrupting traffic on the highway and leading to the closure by KeNHA.
A part of the Chemelil-Muhoroni Road was also rendered impassable after heavy rainfall swept the road.
KeNHA has issued a series of advisories to motorists while providing alternative routes to vehicles to ease congestion.
Last week, the Met Department director blamed miscommunication for the current confusion over El Nino rains.
"I want to point out that as initially given in the forecast, we have El Nino in this short rains season 2023 and we do apologise for the miscommunication because that was a big mistake but we are sorry about that," he also
Kenyans have blamed the confusion on President William Ruto's remarks which downplayed the rains, even after Met officers warned Kenyans of El Nino.
