The Interior Ministry on Sunday confirmed that it had retrieved a vehicle used by 2 Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials swept by floods on Friday.

The Ministry however, indicated that the bodies of the two individuals who have been missing since Friday were not found inside the vehicle.

The statement signed by Interior PS Raymond Omollo further indicated that a search to ascertain the whereabouts of the two had already been initiated.

"We have established from Lungalunga One Stop Border Post that the occupants in the Land Cruiser vehicle were Joram Maina, Lungalunga Border Management Committee Chairperson and David Ng'ang'a," read the statement in part.

"The vehicle has been pulled out from the raging waters and towed to Msambweni Police station without the bodies of the two officers. However, a multi-agency team led by the Kenya Coast Guard Service is on scene trying to retrieve the bodies."

The two, who were traveling to Mombasa County, are believed to have been swept away by floods at Ramisi Bridge in Lungalunga, Kwale County.

An initial statement by the taxman indicated that the Friday incident occurred at Ramisi River which had broken its banks.

"On behalf of the Border Control and Coordination Committee and as its Chairperson, our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends at this difficult time," condoled Omollo.

The Coastal counties including Mombasa and Kwale have been among the most hit by the ongoing floods even as the weatherman continues to caution Kenyans about looming El Nino rains.

On Friday, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir deployed an emergency team to rescue constituents whose homes had been submerged by floods.

Addressing the press later, the county boss acknowledged that the rains pounding the Coastal city were more intense than usual leading to flooding in most parts of the devolved unit.

"The country is currently experiencing unprecedented rainfall that resulted in widespread flooding. The rains have persisted since yesterday here in Mombasa," he stated.

"Our rescue teams are on hand to deal with emergencies. Please reach out through the contact hotlines below for medical and rescue emergencies - 0788911911 or 0707911911."

At least 130 people have lost their lives in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia since the onset of the rains in October.
