Amazement Park in Eldoret where five 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates drowned while boat riding has been shut down.
Without revealing the reasons behind the closure, the park's management in a notice informed the recreation center's customers that the opening dates would be communicated at a later date.
"We are temporarily closed until further notice. Kindly bear with us," read part of the notice from the management.
Additionally, the park informed the public that the closure may last throughout the festive season.
"Sorry guys it is not our wish that this season we will be temporarily absent from our usual activities," read the notice in parts.
Commenting online, some of the park's customers speculated that the facility has been temporarily shut down to facilitate renovations.
The renovations, most opined, will fortify the facility and stop a similar accident from occurring in the future.
Customers pressed the establishment to speed up renovations, make the place safe, and open it quickly ahead of the festive season.
"It's just a matter of time and all shall be well," one of the customers remarked.
In late October, five KCPE candidates from Arap Moi Primary School in Uasin Gishu County died by drowning at the facility during a school trip.
The students were rowing a boat in a man-made lake when the watercraft capsized.
The students died barely two days before the commencement of the national exams which started on October 30.
Following the incident, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu asked parents to ensure that their children avoid engaging in risky activities during the exam period.
At the time, the parents of the deceased children called upon relevant authorities to fast-track investigations to establish if there was any negligence. They also called for those who would be found responsible to be brought to book.
