Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday met United States government officials who briefed him on the status of the Threshold Program.

The Kenya Threshold Program targets policy areas measured by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Control of Corruption selection indicator.

MCC selection indicator is based on data sourced from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank among other global institutions.

Led by MCC Country Director, Jay Scheerer, the Corporation met CS Murkomen two months after Kenya received Ksh9 billion to boost Nairobi City's transport infrastructure.

The meeting according to Murkomen was meant to address various aspects of transportation, infrastructure and planning to improve mobility in Nairobi City.

Kenya developed the Threshold Program after recognising corruption constrains private investment and good governance.

The Threshold Program monitored by MCC ensures that the Kenyan government reduces corruption and improves the efficiency of government institutions.

MCC which is a foreign aid agency in September inked a Ksh9 billion (USD 60M) deal with the National Government to improve urban connectivity and promote economic growth.

The money is earmarked for purchasing climate-friendly buses for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project geared at easing transit problems within Nairobi.

At the time of receiving the financial aid, Murkomen had promised that BRT would be rolled out by December 2024.

“Under our one-government approach to serving the people of Kenya, I assured the delegation that we are fully committed to the activities and reforms that make up our Threshold Program,” Murkomen told the corruption watchdog.

Other top leaders who attended the meeting included; Principal Secretaries Mohamed Daghar (Transport) Charles Hinga (Housing and Urban Development) and Nairobi Metropolitan Director General Francis Gitau.
