Accident in Migaa, Salgaa Causes Heavy Traffic Snarl Up

Travellers using the busy Eldoret-Nakuru Highway were on Saturday forced to spend most of the night on the road after a tragic accident occurred in the Salgaa area. 

According to the Kenya Red Cross, the accident involved a lorry and a 14-seater matatu at Migaa between Salgaa and Sachangwan in Nakuru County.

By 3.00 am on Sunday, police officers were still clearing the scene to allow seamless flow of traffic. 

Kenya Motorists Association (KMA) in an update to the public explained that the collision had caused a heavy traffic snarl up.

“Kenya Police are currently clearing the scene and the Kenya Red Cross will provide psychological support to those affected,’ a statement from Kenya Red Cross read in part. 

The accident which was the second to happen in the area in less than a week saw 14 individuals injured. 

Emergency response from the Kenya Red Cross Action Team ensured that they were stabilized on-site before being transferred to the hospital. 

They are currently receiving treatment at Nakuru Provincial General Hospital with no fatalities reported. 

The accident happened three days after the Kenya Red Cross warned over the rising number of accidents heading to the Christmas holiday. 

Over 10 people lost their lives on the same Highway on November 6, after another lorry collided with an 11-seater shuttle. 

The Ministry of Transport has earmarked the road for upgrading to a dual carriage

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 2124 people died in road accidents from January to June 25, 2023.
