Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday met Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga for a meeting that is now widely viewed as an assurance of a strong opposition coalition.

Insiders shared two photos of the two leaders alongside other Jubilee Party members from the County of Kiambu.

"Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon. Raila Odinga meeting Jubilee leaders from Kiambu County, and other party leaders this evening," shared Pauline Njoroge, the Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary.

Although the public has yet to know the purpose of the meeting, gatherings attended by the two coalition heads have been rare in recent months.

Just this week, members of the opposition had also accused the former Head of State of forging an alliance with President William Ruto.

In a span of weeks, the former Head of State met three first-world countries' ambassadors including the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian, Meg Whitman (US) and British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan.

All the meetings took place at his Nairobi office.

Over the weekend, Azimio leaders read mischief into his meetings accusing him of entertaining leaders alleged to have supported President William Ruto.

“Why is (former) President Uhuru Kenyatta meeting individuals who rigged our 2022 presidential elections,” Kaluma questioned.

“Keep off US ambassador Meg Whitman and her associates from the West.”

Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi is, however, not convinced that the latest meeting between Uhuru and Raila is an assurance of a strong opposition.

Instead, he accused the former President of keeping the former Prime Minister busy while offering no tangible benefits.

"Politics of the rocking chair. Uhuru is keeping Raila busy, taking him nowhere. If he could not make him President in 2022, what will he make him now? This is a trap and if I am wrong, I do not choose to be right," he shared.

"Azimio is dead. It was the big con of our political history. Raila should focus on ODM because Jubilee is also dead. This is what he should tell Uhuru: 'Nothing Personal, just business'."
