Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege on Tuesday detailed how she challenged President William Ruto at a State House meeting months after the 2022 General Election.

Speaking during an Interview on Spice FM, Chege revealed that she questioned Ruto over the mass firings that were happening in the first months of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The MP noted that she was concerned that many of those who were being kicked out of government were from the Mt Kenya region and wanted the President to go easy on the Uhuru appointees.

Chege divulged tough questions she posed to the Head of State, adding that Ruto promised to go easy on the mass firings in his government after listening to her concerns.

"I asked him, were you not part of the government? Why would you want to remove people from their positions unless they are jeopardising the government?

"Every Friday, we were waiting for the gazette notice. I told him (Ruto) that some of these people's families may have voted for him. He said that he had a conversation with his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, and they decided to go slow and give the Uhuru appointees time to serve," she stated.

On the other hand, the MP detailed that her Jubilee faction also sought an opportunity to make contributions in government affairs noting that they did not just want to critique all the government programmes because they were in the opposition.

However, she maintained that her Jubilee faction does not have a coalition agreement with the ruling party and is independent.

Differences With Uhuru

Regarding her differences with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, she maintained that there was no bad blood between them.

Nonetheless, she detailed that she was yet to meet with Uhuru, urging him to reach out and unite the former ruling party.

Chege indicated that the last meeting Uhuru held with them was shortly after the elections after she expressed concern over some of the Jubilee Party losers in the last elections.

"He is my friend. I told him to meet some of our members who lost and some of them were almost going into depression because they believed that we would win. I told him to meet them and just give them a word of encouragement.

"When we met, we agreed that he needs to meet with the elected leaders so that we can have a way forward. We thought we needed to have shadow cabinet ministers so that we critique the government from an informed point of view. He never met with us," Chege detailed.

The nominated MP was named acting Jubilee Party leader after her faction removed Uhuru from his position.

The matter is still active in court following an application made by the other Jubilee faction led by embattled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
