Kenyans Top Searches on Google in 2023

Google is the biggest search engine in the world and the primary source of information for most Kenyans.

From how to cook ugali to what is the time now, Kenyans rely on the platform heavily to stay updated. 

As the year comes to a close, Google released Kenyans' top 10 in various categories such as personalities, movies and sports among others.

Here are the top searches by Kenyans on Google throughout the year.

Top Searched Personalities

According to Google, former Nairobi Women Representative Millicent Omanga was the most searched personality with most of the searches being reported in April. 

Other searched personalities in the top 10 were Pastor Ezekiel, DJ Fatxo, Georgina Njenga, Pastor Mackenzie and Faith Kipyegon.

Also in the top 10 was former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i who made headlines when his house was allegedly raided by police in February.

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati also trended in the year, especially between April and July after it was revealed that there was an attempt on his life during the 2022 polls. 

Chief Justice Martha Koome and Mathe wa Ngara emerged as the ninth and tenth most searched personalities of the year.

Trending Topics in Education 

Among the Top 10 searches in the year were the HEF Portal, tpad2, NEMIS, CBA KNEC Portal, and KCSE Results 2022.

Form One Selection 2023, KUCCPS Portal, School Calendar 2023, Open University of Kenya and KCPE Registration were ranked in descending order.

Most Searched Deaths

Data by Google indicates that former Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha was the most trending loss.

Coming in second was former South African rapper Costa Titch who collapsed while performing at a music festival in March 2023.

Former Ghanaian Christian Atsu who died during an earthquake in Turkey in February also attracted the attention of Kenyans, coming in at position 3.

Edwin Chiloba, Matthew Perry (American Friends actor), AKA, Tina Turner, Ilagosa Wa Ilagosa, Bray Wyatt, and Catherine Kasavuli's deaths also attracted the attention of Kenyans.

Trending Sports Topics

The Rugby World Cup was the most searched sporting activity in Kenya in 2023. The sporting event occurred between September to October 2023.

Al Nassr Football Club in Saudi Arabia emerged at position 2. The interest in the club was occasioned by the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Kenyans also took interest in EPL table 2023/24, Women's World Cup, Ballon d'Or 2023, Champions League, Carabao Cup, Boston Marathon 2023, FA Cup Final and Bundesliga Standings.
