2 people died while 20 others sustained injuries after a bus plying the Nairobi- Malindi route rammed into a trailer at Taru Area along Mombasa Road on Sunday.
The bus which was ferrying passengers from Nairobi to Malindi collided with a trailer heading to Nairobi.
A statement issued by the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the injured persons were rushed to Samburu Sub County Hospital for specialised treatment.
Reports indicated that the bus was carrying 49 passengers.
According to the police statement, the bodies of the deceased were transported to Kinango Sub-county Hospital Mortuary pending identification by their families and ahead of burials.
This week, several people have lost their lives in separate accidents.
On Saturday, four women were killed in an accident along the Kitale-Lodwar Road where a bus headed to Lodwar veered off the road ramming into traders selling milk.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), 16 Kenyans have lost their lives in the last 2 weeks.
Last week, over 50 people were injured after a 62-seater bus was involved in an accident in Londiani, Kericho County.
The Ministry of Transport through Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, has cautioned motorists to be careful while in transit during the festive season.
CS Murkomen in a press statement urged Kenyans to take precautions including calling out reckless Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers to make sure lives are protected.
In the past weeks, the government has also pledged to improve safety measures including arresting traffic offenders.
On Friday, police in Nairobi, acting on a directive from CS Murkomen, arrested the matatu crew of a PSV captured on camera with passengers hanging by the vehicle's sides.
