In the early hours of Saturday morning, a fire broke out at Ebrahim Shopping Mall in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the inferno engulfed the first and second floors of the building as the flames spread to the adjacent building, leading to more losses.

Passersby gathered around the scene as they helplessly watched the fire raze down the business premises.

A section of business owners also complained about losing property of immense value.

The business premises houses stalls that sell, among others, clothes, mobile phones, laptops, shoes and beauty products.

Moments later, firefighters, with the assistance and coordination of police officers, arrived at the scene in a bid to put out the fire.

A section of Kenyans online complained that the fire lasted for hours before the firefighters managed to contain the fire.

Some, however, speculated that the fire was not accidental as many presumed.

"It's been raining heavily in Nairobi and a mall is burning to the ground? You can't convince me it isn't arson," a user commented online.

"A very big Insurance claim about to happen," another user added.

The incident brings into question the measures employed by the Nairobi County Government when dealing with such cases.

In November 2023, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja noted that more than 93 firefighters were added to the disaster response unit in a bid to promptly respond to fire incidences.
