Local administration officers in Kisii have received warning letters from senior government officials after attending a meeting hosted by Kisii Governor, Simba Arati at his home.
While condemning the act on Monday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Philip Etale, spoke in defence of the Kisii Governor who is affiliated with the opposition party.
He also issued a statement where he lamented that the act is unconstitutional and creates a disconnect between the two levels of government.
“This is serious, I thought the Constitution says the National Govt and County Government are interdependent under Article 6 (2). Chiefs meeting Governor Simba Arati has become a crime”, Etale lamented.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke a trusted source confirmed the receipt of the letters by the chiefs.
The meeting which was held by the governor was said to revolve around county development matters like the mass distribution of mosquito nets and bursary disbursement.
However, after the meeting, the chiefs lamented having received warning letters from senior national government officials who they did not name.
The letters, apparently warned the chiefs, claiming that they violated official protocols and guidelines since most of them were unavailable for their duties during the festive season as required.
"This letter is to warn you of your actions and that severe consequences of not adhering to the directives will be imposed on you," the letter allegedly read.
It is yet to be determined which senior officials issued the letters and if the allegations therein are factual.
During a previous meeting held by the governor at the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KHIBIT), he emphasised the need for collaboration between the national government and county governments.
In his speech, he also alluded to the constitution to champion this collaboration stating that levels of governments are interrelated and need to work together in discharging their various functions for the benefit of the Kenyan people.
