8 people were on Tuesday, January 9, injured in an accident at Nyambari, Lari area along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
According to a report by the St John Ambulance, the matatu was ferrying several students who were travelling back to school.
The report further explained that the lorry crashed into the matatu, causing it to veer off the road.
Two people were critically injured, while others survived with minor injuries and were rushed to various hospitals in the area.
The hospitals which include St. Peter's Orthopedic Hospital, Lari Level 4 Hospital and Kijabe Mission Hospital are currently attending to the casualties.
“St John Ambulance First Responders from our Lari/Nyambari Rescue Centre attended to the casualties on-site,”
“They have also handed them over for evacuation to the hospitals mentioned,” St Johns noted in a statement.
This accident comes a day after the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) gave a directive to Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers and parents.
Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers were advised to ensure their vehicles are in good condition for each trip to avoid malfunctioning on the road ahead of school opening.
"We ask drivers to slow down while on the road. Ensure all the passengers have their seatbelts on to avoid accidents," NTSA Road Safety Manager Samuel Musumba stated.
Meanwhile, The National Police Service (NPS) on Tuesday gave a cautionary directive after 15 people lost their lives in an accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
In their notice, NPS advised motorists to take extra precautions when using major highways to curb accidents.
