Well-wishers from across the world raised over Ksh319,900 in hours for a Kenyan nurse who was found dead in New York, USA on Christmas Day last year.

According to John Mugo's family, he went missing before Christmas while preparing to fly to Atlanta from New York.

"Please help us find our brother and best friend, John Mugo, a travel Registered Nurse. He had just started an assignment in a New York hospital," the family stated.

"Unfortunately, we don't know what travel agency he was with or the hospital he was posted in. Mugo was planning to fly to Atlanta but never got home. We're worried and concerned as his phone has gone to voicemail."

Days later, Mugo was found dead in Queens, New York on December 25, 2023.

Mugo's family described him as a cheerful person whose passion and energy were second to none.

"John Mugo was a cheerful, loving, hardworking and gentle soul. John’s unwavering love and deep commitment to his family, friends and colleagues was unmatched," the family stated.

"Always the life of the party, he lit up a room whenever he walked in and made everyone feel special. John had an uncanny ability to connect people and make friends wherever he went."

Following Mugo's demise, his family set up a GoFundMe page seeking assistance to bring his body from the USA to Nyahururu, Kenya, for burial preparations.

The family is seeking to raise Ksh4.7 million by January 20, 2024, for the burial service.
