Kenya Broadcasting Corporation has won free-to-air rights to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches.

The government broadcaster will showcase all fifty-two matches across its three television stations and 14 radio stations.

Speaking at the unveiling of the 2024 AFCON licence, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba stated that the milestone was part of the reforms under his management.

"It's all coming to you live across your television and radio sets, enjoy the game," CS Ababu stated.

The matches are set to kick off tomorrow at 11 pm East African Time ( EAT), January 13 in Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast also known as the Elephants will play against Guinea Bissau in the opening group A matches.

"Everybody in government is supporting KBC to reclaim its position. We can't wait to watch the AFCON matches live from tomorrow," ICT Principal Secretary  Edward Kisiangani who was in attendance stated.

Kenya last played its AFCON match in 2019, suffering elimination at the group's stage matches.

Harambee Stars, the country's national football team, also suffered another blow after it exited the 2023 AFCON qualifiers prematurely.

Meanwhile, Kenya will make a comeback in the 2027 edition after qualifying automatically as one of the hosts of the tournament. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania won the hosting rights of the tourney.

“The work of prosecuting our joint bid now begins in earnest and Kenya intends to make its full contribution to it. Namwamba is duly seized of this assignment and is mobilising his team, liaising with his counterparts in Uganda and Tanzania to formulate a winning bid so that the people of our countries can look forward to participating in a successful 2027 tournament,” President William Ruto stated.

“We hope that our joint bid will motivate all our sides not only to qualify for the 2027 tournament but also excel beyond previous achievements,” he added.
