A Nigerian national, who is being treated as a key suspect in the murder of a 20-year-old in an apartment in Roysambu, was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following a tip-off from the public.

Multiple reports indicated that several Kenyans at the airport identified the suspect as the man who resembled the one captured on CCTV footage

Police officers had released footage of the suspect which captured him entering a mini-supermarket along TRM Drive where he picked up the key for the short-term rental house he had booked.

The footage, however, partially showed the suspect's face as he had worn a cap to disguise his identity.

The tip-off led detectives to arrest the suspect, who was reportedly set to fly to Abuja.

He was then driven to Kasarani Police Station for interrogation alongside two other suspects, linked to the brutal murder of the woman. However, the suspect was reportedly taken to an unknown destination minutes later.

A detective privy to the matter intimated to the media that they are yet to establish whether the foreigner in custody was the one captured on the CCTV footage. He added that investigations were still ongoing to determine the real perpetrators and establish the motive behind the murder.

"The suspect is a foreigner but officers are yet to establish whether he is the suspect in the murder of the woman or not. Investigations are still on," the source revealed.

Killer Weapon

Police indicated that the killer used a hacksaw and murdered the woman inside the bathroom of the rental house. Preliminary investigations also revealed that there were no signs of a struggle in the house, indicating that the 20-year-old girl was lured to her death.

"We highly suspect that the murderer drugged the woman before he ended her life," the source detailed.

Following the incident last Sunday, the neighbours of the rental house were also taken in for questioning to aid in the investigations but were later released.

On Tuesday, the woman's family positively identified the dismembered body through the clothes she had worn the night she was killed. Pieces of the woman's body were found in a polythene bag, with the head missing.

As detectives continued with investigations, they informed the family that a fingerprint analysis ought to be conducted to positively ascertain the woman's identity.
