A 22-year-old woman has been detained for 21 days after being arraigned in court on charges of impersonating a General Service Unit (GSU) officer.

A court in Busia which made the ruling on Wednesday morning, noted that the 21-day detention period was to allow investigators establish how the woman acquired the GSU attire.

The woman, who was arrested on Tuesday evening after a tip-off from the public, pleaded guilty to the charges.

Police from Butula Police Station arrested her in Bukhalalire, Busia County on Tuesday evening while she was wearing the full GSU uniform.

The suspect was also in possession of an AK-47 rifle when she was arrested and It is yet to be determined, how she gained access to the rifle and the police uniform.

Reports on the case, also confirm that the woman has in the past been arrested for posing as a law enforcement officer.

She is said to have masqueraded as a police officer at Kabete Police Station, and several outposts in Kisumu and Busia.

The case has raised concerns about the security of Kenyans, seeing that the woman had the rifle illegally.

Busia High Court Judge stated that the impersonation case will be heard on February 8, 2023.

This comes shortly after, the arrest and arraignment of three GSU officers for the kidnapping of a Chinese national on January 8, in Machakos County.

Reports cite that the 3 GSU officers waylaid him, blocked his vehicle, bundled him into their car, and later demanded a ransom from his family.
