As renovations at State House gather pace, Kenyans.co.ke has noticed similarities in designs between the new style that President William Ruto is adopting and the one adorning the Oval Office used by American Presidents.
From colour to furniture, the two offices have striking resemblances that portray subtle messages of power and diplomacy.
Among the notable similarities, we noted in our spot check include the positioning of the Coat of Arms carpeted on the floor of the office space.
Coat of Arms
Ruto's new office is covered in a white carpet, intricately designed with the Coat of Arms prominently positioned at its centre.
The emblem holds significance for the nation, representing the government through the imagery of two majestic lions grasping a spear, a shield, the iconic Mount Kenya, and flourishing crops. The composition conveys themes of protection and the preservation of the nation's rich heritage.
Drawing parallels to the Oval Office, where a blue carpet adorned with the US seal graces the floor, we find a comparable depth of symbolism.
The US seal is a testament to the nation's values and ideals, with an eagle at its core holding both an olive branch and arrows.
The olive branch signifies a preference for peace, reflecting the nation's commitment to diplomatic solutions, while the arrows convey a readiness to defend and protect against any threats.
"The current design was defined in an Executive Order by President Eisenhower in 1960 when Hawaii became the 50th State and the 50th star was added to the seal.
"It is mounted in the centre of the Oval Office ceiling and on the iconic rug on the Oval Office floor. When the President leaves the Blue Room to speak to the media, the seal is visible mounted above the doorway," the White House explained on its website.
However, the carpets have different colours and patterns around them. The State House carpet has a red rectangle border, while the Oval Office carpet has a floral pattern inside a red oval.
Ruto's Coat of Arms in the middle of the carpet is more personalised. It is surrounded by a yellow circle, which aligns with his party's, United Democratic Alliance (UDA's) theme colour.
Decorations
In his new office, Ruto has opted for framed artwork showcasing nature and Kenyan heritage, a departure from his previous decor. Similarly, the Oval Office features comparable artwork, including paintings of past US leaders.
Remarkably, both offices share a common element just below the framed art – console wood tables. In the White House office, these console tables serve as platforms for an array of sculptures.
Colours
The offices share similarities in color decorations, with a prevalent use of cream, especially on the furniture covers.
The choice of cream contributes to the aesthetic appeal and conveys a sense of calmness. Its soothing effect creates a welcoming atmospheres.
