A Kabarak University student was found dead on Friday morning on the Nakuru-Mogotio Road near Kambi ya Moto trading centre in Nakuru.
Students from the university reported the case after rushing the colleague to the university health centre, where he was declared dead.
According to reports from area police, the 23-year-old nursing student had stab wounds in his stomach believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object.
Detectives have since launched investigations to ascertain the cause of death. However, they presumed that the student was a victim of a robbery case gone wrong as his valuables were missing.
The body was transferred to the Nakuru Annex Mortuary where a postmortem was scheduled to aid detectives in their investigations.
Kabarak University students were requested to work with the police officers from the area to fast-track the case.
Nonetheless, they demanded security to be heightened as such an incident had not been reported at the institution for years.
Police promised to deploy more officers to the area and around the school and also corporate with security guards to improve security.
The death is a cause for alarm as this is the third incident reported in 2024, targeting university students.
On January 9, a first-year student at Machakos University was stabbed to death by her 5th-year boyfriend after a disagreement ensued between the two lovers who lived together.
Police reports indicated that the woman was stabbed in the neck causing excessive bleeding which led to her death.
Consequently, another 3rd-year Jomo Kenyatta University (JKUAT) student's body was found in a short-stay rental house in Roysambu along Thika Road, chopped and stuffed in plastic bags.
The case which has been ongoing for the past week ascertained that the 20-year-old girl, Rita Wanei, was strangled before the body was decapitated.
Several suspects linked to the case have been arrested and arraigned, waiting for judgment.
