A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife at her parent's home in Kipsolu, Kericho County over a marital dispute.

In a police report filed on Friday, the suspect travelled from Borborwet to his wife's home to sort out their domestic issues.

However, the couple's resolve to iron out their differences did not materialise as a heated argument ensued.

Amid the scuffle, the suspect grabbed a knife from a nearby table and stabbed his wife on the left side of the neck.

Nearby residents who stormed the house after learning about the incident found the victim lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

The mob attacked the 27-year-old while baying for his blood, as others attended to the victim.

Some residents, alarmed by the incident, reported the incident to officers attached to Sosiot Police Station who quickly rushed to the scene. The officers fired two rounds in the air to disperse the crowd and restore calm.

Police then detained the suspect who narrowly escaped death as investigations commenced to ascertain the motive of his action.

The detectives also processed and documented the scene before they collected evidence to be used as exhibits in court.

Meanwhile, the victim's body was rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her body was preserved in the same facility awaiting autopsy.

Police did not provide further information on the nature of the marital issue the duo was attempting to resolve and whether they had fallen out acrimoniously, prompting the woman to seek refuge at her parent's home.

The incident highlights the grim picture of femicide cases in the country with several women killed by either an intimate partner or a close friend.

On Saturday, January 27, activists carried out nationwide protests, urging the government to address the pertinent issue.
