Kangema Police Station is gearing up to auction cars and motorcycles abandoned at the station should their owners fail to collect them in 30 days.

In a Gazette Notice released on Friday, Kevin Gitau of Astorion Auctioneers revealed that the company had been selected to run the auction on behalf of the station.

Cars in question include KBY 269Q, KAG 521U and KAA 645W while 21 motorcycles will also be put up for auction.

As a result, the owners of the vehicles have been given just 30 days to collect the property or lose them by the fall of the hammer.

"Notice is issued following an authority and order by the Principal Magistrate’s Court at Kangema Law Courts to the owners of motor vehicles, motorcycles and scrap metal which are lying idle and unclaimed within Kangema Police Station, to collect the said motor vehicles, motorcycles and scrap at the said yard within 30 days from the date of this publication of this notice," read the notice in part.

"Failure to which Astorion Auctioneers, Nairobi shall proceed to dispose of the said motor vehicles, motorcycles, and scrap by way of public auction on behalf of Kangema Police Station if they remain uncollected/unclaimed."

Cases of auction of motor vehicles have been on the rise since the beginning of the year with three other notices, contained in the Friday Gazette, issued to owners whose vehicles are lying at car bazaars.

On Tuesday, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) also announced that it was auctioning vehicles and unserviceable items across its offices.

The agency indicated that the auction would be held from February 7 to February 14 at different dates and locations.

The exercise will commence at KeNHA Headquarters opposite Laptrust Fund Garden at 11:00 am.

On the same day, KeNHA will also conduct the auction exercise in Nairobi, Athi River Weighbridge and the Lower Eastern Region.
