2 Suspects Remanded Over Meru Blogger Sniper’s Murder

A Kiambu court on Monday remanded two people who are suspects in the murder case of deceased Meru blogger, Daniel 'Sniper' Muthiani.

The two were arraigned at the court on Monday after the results of a mental assessment were presented to the court deeming them fit to stand trial.

Both suspects were charged with a count of murder in violation of Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code (Cap. 63).

In a statement issued by the Office of The Director of Public Prosecutions(ODPP), it was revealed that both suspects would be detained at the Industrial Area Prison pending a bail application and a hearing of the same.

“They pleaded not guilty before Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony and will be remanded at Industrial Area Remand Prison pending filing a bail application by the defence and a subsequent response by the prosecution”, read the statement in part.

However, both suspects in the trial pleaded not guilty to the counts of murder that they were charged with.

Further, the court, directed that the Probation and Aftercare Service conduct a social inquiry and file a pre-bail report within 14 days.

They also stated that the matter will be mentioned on 29 February this year.

The two suspects are among five who have been arrested on allegations of killing the Meru blogger in December 2023.

One of the suspects who was arraigned today, is a brother to the governor of Meru County, Kawira Mwangaza.

It is alleged that both individuals were involved in the luring of the blogger and subsequently his murder.

Recent developments in the case have also revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered a vehicle that was used by the murder suspects, in the Canopy Area, Kithoka Meru County two days ago.
