Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday arrested five former senior officials of the Nyandarua County Government.

A former County Executive Member in charge of trade was among those arrested in the crackdown.

The suspects are accused of making fraudulent payments of Ksh13 million to 6 suppliers who did not supply anything to the County Government.

"Investigations established that the suspects forged documents to falsely show that the suppliers facilitated a County Investment Conference, which did not take place," the EACC detectives stated.

According to the anti-graft detectives, the 5 suspects are set to take a plea before the Nakuru Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday, February 1, in the morning.

Meanwhile, the Commission is pursuing three other suspects believed to be hiding to evade arrest including; former CEC Member, Water, the County Chief Officer in charge of trade and the Chief Auditor.

The Nyandarua arrests come barely a week after the detectives arrested 7 senior county officials from the Isiolo County Government over links to a Ksh58 million graft case.

Among those arrested in Isiolo included a former chief officer of finance, the former chief officer of public works, housing & urban development, the former head of treasury, and an accountant.

"This relates to a tender for the supply and delivery of a fire engine corruptly awarded in the Financial Year (FY) 2018/2019," stated the EACC officers.

The arrests also follow a similar scenario where the Commission nabbed an Assistant County Commissioner from Kilifi who stole and sold relief food valued at Ksh550,200 meant for needy residents in Tana River County.

The anti-graft commission officials launched investigations to uncover facts surrounding the incident to verify whether the official carried out the deed alone or with other officials.

"The Commission remains firmly focused on its mandate and will continue to enforce the law against all persons engaging in theft of public funds," EACC officers noted.
