The Ministry of Education has dismissed reports that a new placement examination for primary schools is in the works.

Via its official channels, the Ministry refuted claims that it had been directed to develop the Kenya Primary Placement Examination, expected to unveil a new criterion for placing learners.

According to the reports which have since been flagged as false, the new examination was to be rolled out by November this year.

In its response, the Ministry maintained nothing has changed and the status quo would remain.

The fake circular also claimed that the State was working towards shifting Grade 9 under the competency-based curriculum to secondary school.

The change was expected to affect Junior Secondary School teachers who are anchored in primary schools by moving them to high schools to handle grades 9, 10, 11, and 12.

"Survey to be considered in content areas for secondary school and colleges category as matter of urgency to avoid further curriculum distortion," added the fake circular.

"Consider an existing cluster of schools, national, extra county, and county schools to ease the transition."

This comes as the Ministry of Education completes the transition of CBC learners to Junior Secondary School.

The transition was informed by the release of the 2023 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) results by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

The results were uploaded on the KNEC portal for access by school principals and parents.

On Thursday, KNEC advised all headteachers and principals to ensure that students in their institutions have been registered for this year's KPSEA tests.

The examinations body designated March 29, 2024 as the deadline for registrations.
