The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Thursday announced a temporary disruption of traffic along both carriageways of Mombasa Road between Ole-Sereni and Athi River Interchange.
KeNHA attributed the interruptions to ongoing road maintenance works with the authority urging motorists to accord the contractor adequate time to upgrade sections of the road.
The Authority also revealed marshals will be deployed to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during the maintenance period.
“Follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be directed by Traffic Marshals and Police on-site,” stated the Authority.
Motorists planning to use the road were advised to approach the affected sections with caution as some lanes will be closed.
However, KeNHA did not state the duration of the road maintenance.
Upgrades on Mombasa Road come a month after the KeNHA closed a section of the same highway at the Imaara Mall (Tuff Steel) Junction for five days between December 25 and December 31, 2023.
According to the road agency, the closure was guided by the need to pave the way for the extraction and installation of a cross culvert.
It further stated that only two out of the four lanes of the Mombasa-bound carriageway will be closed to minimise disruption of traffic along the highway.
Installation of the cross culvert was aimed at improving the drainage in the area and reducing flooding on the road after the area experienced drainage challenges following heavy downpours.
The move was also prompted by calls from the public for the government to mitigate the flooding crisis along areas of Mombasa Road.
KeNHA urged motorists to use the two open lanes and to comply with the guidelines issued to navigate the section.
