Safaricom has explained why some of its customers are not getting messages from Safaricom or M-Pesa.
In a statement dated Friday, February 9, the telecommunication company noted that the issue was mostly affecting users who were using third-party messaging applications, especially on Android devices.
Most of the third-party SMS applications were spamming and blocking the messages.
Consequently, the service provider advised its customers to fix the issues by adjusting settings on the third-party platforms.
"To resolve the issue, we advise affected customers to follow the below steps. Open your SMS app and check the Spam & Blocked folder.
"Find a Safaricom and M-Pesa message and unblock it. All subsequent messages will go to the main inbox," read the notice in part.
Alternatively, Android users can choose to use the default SMS application on their devices explaining that it does not spam messages.
Users can also access their M-Pesa statement through their email addresses to ascertain their transactions on the platform.
In August last year, the mobile money giant revised the ceiling for mobile money transactions increasing to a maximum of Ksh500,000 from Ksh300,000.
“The increased account limits will provide customers and especially small businesses with increased convenience as the share of cashless transactions continues to rise,” Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa stated at the time.
Ndegwa noted that the increase in account limits was in line with the company’s commitment to providing customers with convenient and secure mobile money services.
Per transaction limit, however, remained at Ksh150,000.
