Two female officers attached to Kasarani Police Station were on Friday night, February 16, assaulted and robbed by three armed individuals.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the female officers were accosted by the gunmen while patrolling the Kiwanjani area.

Two of the men restrained one officer by grabbing her hands while the other individual seized the second cop while shouting 'kill' 'kill'.

Amid the altercation, the gunmen seized a firearm from one of the officers and quickly fled the area.

The other female officer, armed with her rifle, attempted to fire three rounds of ammunition to contain the assailants but missed her mark.

"Immediately thereafter a backup team that was on the other side of the road arrived showing force which enabled the robbers to flee without shooting back at the officers," the report read in part.

A team led by the Sub-County Police Commander and Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO) Kasarani has since embarked on a thorough search to recover the lost firearm and nab the suspects.

The incident underscores the surge in criminal activity within the Kasarani area with residents lamenting that the once-flourishing residency is marred with terror and crime.

Kasarani SCCIO Jimmy Kimaro recently told the media that over 40 cases of suicide, murders and unexplained deaths were recorded in the first three months of 2023.

"It is a worrying trend," he stated and promised to heighten security.

According to the latest report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the crime rate increased from 81,272 cases in 2021 to 88,083 in 2022.

From the data, police stations in Nairobi, Kiambu and Meru recorded the highest cases of crimes at 9.7, 8.9 and 6.5 per cent respectively in 2022.
