Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Representative Caroline Ng'elechei on Monday morning emerged from an accident unscathed after her vehicle overturned while she was travelling along the Moim- Kapkoi Road in Uasin Gishu County.

According to reports, the accident occurred after the vehicle's brakes failed which caused the motor vehicle to overturn and roll several times.

Fortunately, the politician and her driver did not sustain any major injuries.

Immediately after the accident, locals rushed to the scene to help occupants out of the damaged vehicle.

The politician's vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, was in widely circulated photos depicted in the middle of the narrow murram road having been considerably damaged. The car was missing one of its tail lights due to the impact of the accident.

The vehicle appeared to have rolled over a few times before landing on its side.

Before the vehicle was eventually towed away from the road, traffic had built up slightly mostly from boda riders and residents who gathered near the scene to witness what had occurred.

By the time of publishing this article, Ng'elechei had however not addressed the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Kenyans commenting online and her constituents in general were however relieved that the MP did not sustain injuries from the accident and wished her a quick recovery.

"Sorry to you woman representative, thank God everyone on board is safe and sound," one resident stated.

Following the incident, Kenyans were urged to exercise caution while travelling via roads to avoid accidents which may result in fatalities.

Last week, Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi was involved in an accident in Chuka, Meru County. The lawmaker, however, also escaped unhurt.

Mwirigi's vehicle is said to have veered off the road and landed on its side. This resulted in a deformed front and shattered lights.

Additionally, the tyres were also deflated. It was however not immediately established what caused the accident as police launched investigations.

Besides the two, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah also escaped unhurt in a road accident along the Kisumu-Busia highway on Friday, February 16 after his vehicle hit a trailer.

Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) shows that between January 1 and February 11, 2024, about 563 people lost their lives to road accidents.
