Outgoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president, Eric Theuri, has lost his bid for the Male Representative to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) seat.
Theuri lost the seat in a tight competition with Nairobi-based lawyer Omwanza Ombati, who won the bid by 65 votes.
The elections held on Thursday, February 29, saw Ombati and Theuri garnering 3,357 and 3,292 votes respectively.
Also contesting for the male representative seat were Ishmael Nyaribo and Professor Mwabile, who received 95 and 629 votes respectively.
"Omwanza Ombati wins the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) male representative to the JSC. He defeated outgoing LSK President Eric Theuri by 65 votes," stated Senior Counsel Ahmednasir.
Eric Theuri, serving as the 50th LSK president from 2022-2024 sought to become the Fourth LSK Male Representative to the Judicial Service Commission with a three-point agenda.
Among his agenda, was to offer Effective and Responsive Representation, safeguard Judicial Independence and Enhancing Accountability and champion the Judicial transformation
The JSC representative plays a crucial role in the discipline and appointment of both Judges and Magistrates.
Also taking place yesterday were the presidential elections, where Faith Mony Odhiambo garnered 3,040 votes. In second place came Peter Wanyama, followed by Carolyne Kamende in third with 2,122 and 910 votes respectively.
Odhiambo, who has served as the LSK Vice President since 2022, also serves as a partner at Ombok & Owuor Advocates LLP.
The election which saw 5 candidates compete against each other was seeking to replace the incumbent president Theuri, whose tenure lapsed on March 25.
"Congratulations Madam President, Faith Odhiambo. Serve us with distinction. Just remember that in this office, one’s popularity starts waning on the day of the oath. Always do the right thing. If in doubt, say NO,” former LSK President Nelson Havi stated in a congratory post.
