Faith Mony Odhiambo has been elected the new President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
Results tallied showed that Odhiambo won the election after garnering 3,040 votes while her closest competitors Peter Wanyama and Carolyne Kamende had secured 2,122 and 910 votes respectively.
Bernard Kipng’etich and Njoki Mboche secured 877 and 482 votes.
Odhiambo has been serving as the LSK Vice President having secured the position in 2022. She is also a partner at Ombok & Owuor Advocates LLP.
The election pitted 5 candidates against each other including Odhiambo, Kamende, Wanyama, Ng’etich and Mboche.
All of them were looking to replace Theuri whose tenure lapses on March 25.
Theuri’s position was declared vacant in December 2023 in line with LSK regulations.
Faith who had secured the endorsement of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna before the elections becomes the Society’s 51st President, taking over from the incumbent Eric Theuri.
In a post, former LSK President Nelson Havi congratulated Odhiambo and asked her to serve lawyers with distinction.
"Congratulations Madam President, Faith Odhiambo. Serve us with distinction. Just remember that in this office, one’s popularity starts waning on the day of the oath. Always do the right thing. If in doubt, say NO,” he stated.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also congratulated Odhiambo for the win.
"Congratulations Faith Odhiambo on your election as the 51st LSK President. We are proud of you Nyarnam. Serve with distinction!" she posted on X.
