New Details Emerge Over Busia Accident Involving Fuel Tanker and Tahmeed Bus

The cause of the accident involving a fuel tanker and a Tahmeed Bus which occured on Friday has been revealed. 

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the driver of the tanker failed to adhere to traffic rules requiring him to stick to his lane. 

The report further revealed that the driver of the fuel tanker, who was en route to Busia from Kisumu, attempted to overtake another vehicle and hit the oncoming bus.

Due to the impact of the accident, both vehicles ignited, resulting in severe fires that left numerous passengers burnt beyond recognition.

Police officers have established that the driver of the fuel tanker, a 36-year-old man died while the driver of the Tahmeed bus sustained fractures on both legs.

His co-driver also sustained head injuries while the conductor sustained a dislocation on his left hand.

Among the passengers onboard the Tahmeed bus were four Ugandan nationals alongside other Kenyans who escaped unscathed.

Aside from the fuel tanker driver, a female passenger inside the bus was also burnt to ashes.

"All the victims rushed to Busia Referral Hospital where they are being attended and two dead bodies removed to the Busia Referral Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem and identifications," the police report read in part.

Efforts to locate the female passenger's family have been launched.

"While one of the deceased has not yet been identified, efforts are in progress to trace the relatives."

Further, the Busia County Government quickly dispatched the Fire and Rescue Service to the scene to put out the fire.

"The fire has been put off and arrangements to recover wreckage are underway. The prime mover was burnt but the tanker carrying diesel was rescued," read part of the police report.
