A 35-year-old man has been arrested in the Mathare area in Kajiado North, after killing his three-week-old baby.

Police officers from Ngong’ Police Station detained the man, after his wife reported the incident, detailing the events that led to the horrific incident

According to the suspect’s wife, the man is accused of covering both the mouth and the nose, cutting airflow for a few minutes leading to the baby's death.

The mother who was at the time cooking in the kitchen walked into the husband committing the heinous act but failed to stop him.

The woman further revealed that the two had in the past couple of days had disagreements, which she stated might have played a part in the man's actions.

Neighbours confirming the situation within the family stated that the two had been having on-and-off fights for a long time. However, they expressed shock at the shocking turn of events.

The baby’s body was transported to a nearby mortuary awaiting an autopsy report to aid the officers with further investigations.

In a similar incident on Monday, the residents of the Munyaka area in Nyandarua County were left in shock after a man killed his estranged wife and child who lived near a police station.

According to reports, the husband and the wife were living separately. The man tracked the mother and the child to their recent location and hacked them both to death.

The neighbours cited numerous fights between the couple, which had led to the woman moving out of her matrimonial home, to living by herself.

The man later killed himself.

This case adds to the rising number of fatal relationships which have become more rampant across the country, as couples in abusive relationships are advised to seek help.
