Police in Kajiado have launched investigations after angry residents beat a middle-aged man to death for killing three people on Wednesday morning.
According to villagers from Ololua in Kajiado Central Constituency, the assailant had secured a job to till a farm from one of the residents on March 11, and committed to finishing the job as agreed.
The man however, on Wednesday got into a fight with the 69-year-old owner of the farm for unknown reasons.
The fight escalated and the man started attacking the elder with a machete he had been using at the farm.
A neighbour was alarmed by wails emanating from the elderly man’s home. Upon reaching the scene, the assailant turned on him and attacked him with the machete.
The two succumbed to the deep-cut injuries sustained from the assault before anyone could respond to their cries.
Continuing with his murderous spree, he then proceeded to the area chief’s home, where he inquired about his whereabouts with the intent to report the incident.
The chief’s wife, upon noticing the bloody machete started screaming as she scampered for her safety, attracting the neighbours who came to her rescue. The chief was not at home at the time of the incident.
Unfortunately, a young visually impaired man living at the chief’s home was hacked to death, as he couldn’t run to rescue himself.
The residents, angry at the man’s actions beat him to death.
"It is a very sad incident. I want to pass my condolences to the bereaved families for the untimely death of their loved ones. Three lives have been lost in a very bizarre incident. Witnesses are traumatised, it is a serious matter," Kajiado County Commander David Mburukua stated while confirming the incident.
"Our preliminary investigations point out that the suspect might have been mentally challenged but we are yet to verify conclusively his true identity," he added.
